How long does it take us to do this? Often less than a day, but here are some of the factors that can change that timeframe.
Can A Boiler Be Installed In Under A Day?
Yes, a like-for-like combi boiler swap can take just a few hours to complete and can sometimes be done as soon as a boiler is supplied.
Much of this time is spent checking the boiler and your water system beforehand, ensuring that there are no additional issues that can cause delays, such as repairs that need to be done to your pipework, blockages which may need a power flush, or anything else that needs to be installed.
As well as this, another substantial part is testing the boiler afterwards and monitoring the system as it restarts.
In total, this entire process can take around four to six hours, although it can sometimes take less than this if the job is particularly simple.
What Makes A Boiler Installation Take Longer?
Typically, the more standard your boiler system and the fewer adjustments you need or want, the easier an installation will be. Conversely, if you want to change your boiler system location or need significant upgrades, it can take longer to install a boiler.
A common reason for this is that if you have an older boiler which requires a hot water cylinder and you want to switch to a combi boiler, the pipework around your house will need to be altered in order to remove the cylinder and shut off the pipes leading to it.
As well as this, if you want to move your boiler around, add radiators or more substantially alter your heating system, it can potentially take a lot longer, from an extra day to up to a week of additional work, although your engineer will let you know the expected timescales ahead of time.
As well as this, if your boiler is located in a small airing cupboard or is hard to access, it can delay the installation and slow down an engineer.
Do Larger Boilers Take Longer To Install?
In general, the larger the boiler, the longer it will take to install, especially if it is not of a standard design and may need additional work done to other parts of your central heating system.
Partly, this is due to larger systems having more components to fit, but another aspect is that boilers for larger homes often incorporate hot water storage cylinders to maximise efficiency.
